CEE 200-1 Seminar: Josh Gebelein, M.S., S.E. will present, “Mandatory Earthquake Hazard Reduction in Existing Non-Ductile Concrete Buildings”

Speaker: Josh Gebelein
Affiliation: Brandow & Johnston, Inc. Structural & Civil Engineers

Summary:
A presentation summarizing the recently enacted City of Los Angeles Ordinance “Mandatory Earthquake Hazard Reduction in Existing Non-Ductile Concrete Buildings” and the SEAOSC Design Guide that was developed to demonstrate technical implementation of the Ordinance.  An overview of the seismic vulnerabilities of Non-Ductile Concrete buildings, a history and requirements of the recently passed Ordinance, the various methodologies which may be used for ordinance compliance, and different design approaches will be given.   The background on the research and development that went into the making of the Design Guide will be discussed.
