Civil Engineering students Monica Shei, Tiffany Huang, and Paul Lee, placed second at the Annual Institute of Transportation Engineers, or ITE, Presentation Night representing the UCLA Student Chapter of ITE. The Student Chapter Presentations were a joint event with the ITE Socal and Orange County Traffic Engineering Council, or OCTEC monthly meeting. It was held on May 22, 2013 at Knott's Berry Farm Resort Hotel in Buena Park, CA. This is ITE's version of competition and 6 other ITE student chapters in the area also attended to present their studies.
UCLA ITE presented on the operational impacts of inbound queueing at Santa Monica Parking Structure #4 on Second Street. The chapter members collected data of the existing conditions, analyzed the effects of the city's proposed road diet plans on the parking structure's queue length, and recommended practical and economical solutions.
We would like to thank our faculty advisors, Patrick Gibson and Walter Okitsu for their continued support and dedication to this student chapter. We would also like to thank the City of Santa Monica for providing statistical data that assisted our studies. Hopefully, we will improve even more in the upcoming years.
