Personal Statement

Robert Kayen teaches Engineering Geomatics and Engineering Geology at UCLA, and has authored over 300 Journal Articles, Professional Papers, Conference Papers, and reports in the fields of Earthquake Engineering, LIDAR – Geomatics, Engineering Geophysics and Marine GeotechnicsHe is the recipient of the ASCE Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award, and the Commendation Award from the Environmental Division of the United States Department of Justice. He received the Ames Honor Award  in 2010 from the NASA-Ames Research Center.  In 2001 and 2002 he was Visiting  Professor of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Kobe University, Japan and continues collaboration with Kobe University as a Visiting Scholar. He served on the Editorial Board of the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Engineering from 1997 to 2004, and currently serves on the TCLEE Ports and Harbors Committee of ASCE. He received a Doctoral degree in Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
