Congratulations to Ph.D. candidate Yingtian Yu on winning the Norbert J. Kreidl Award for Young Scholars. This international award delivered by the American Ceramic Society recognizes research excellence in glass science. The winner of the Kreidl Award will present his lecture at a special Awards Session at the 2017 GOMD meeting as well as receive a check for $500, certificate and a commemorative glass piece.

Yingtian Yu is a Ph.D. candidate in the UCLA Civil and Environmental Engineering (Civil Engineering Materials) area under faculty advisor Dr. Mathieu Bauchy. Yingtian’s research focuses on the relaxation of glass. Relaxation induces some variations in the dimensions of glass panels, which can cause some pixel misalignments in large LCD/OLED screens. In practice, this limits the size and resolution of TV screens. Dr. Bauchy also received the Norbert J. Kreidl Award for Young Scholars while a graduate student.
