A UCLA study, published in the journal ACS ES&T Water and coauthored by C&EE Professors Sanjay Mohanty and Erik Hoek, suggests that fertilizer could contain far more plastic particles — as much as 25 times more — than was previously suspected. In the UCLA Newsroom article, Professor Mohanty spoke about the need for further research on where microplastics go after wastewater is processed, and the associated risks.
