Dear Prospective PhD Student,

Thank you for your interest in the graduate program at UCLA. I am honored that you are considering applying to UCLA, and have taken the time to visit my webpage. I receive a very large number of email messages from PhD students each year asking me to review their resume and discuss admission to our PhD program. I try to respond to these messages, but I simply don’t have time to respond to all of them. I am therefore writing this message so that you know what I would say if I had the time to respond. When I do respond, I inform students that my policy is to not comment on a student’s case until we have had a chance to review all of our applications in the Winter quarter. I never provide comments on a student’s case because we follow a fair and balanced formal admission process, and we provide feedback only after a decision has been reached. We generally receive many more PhD applications than we can accommodate, and unfortunately must decline admission to many highly qualified PhD students each year.
