Design of Foundations and Earth Structures

Soil mechanics review: emphasis on consolidation and shear strength. 4 lec.
Site characterization. 1 lec.
Earthwork construction: soil compaction, geosynthetics, and soil improvement. 3 lec.
Slope stability: types of landslides, limit equilibrium methods and their limitations. 2 lec.
Earth retaining structures: lateral earth pressures, conventional and reinforced soil wall stability analysis and design. 3 lec.
Shallow foundations: bearing capacity principals, settlement, design considerations, 3 lec.
Deep foundations (driven piles and drilled shafts): Load transfer, construction considerations, axial capacity. 2 lec.
