“Foundation Alternatives in Potentially Liquefiable Soils”

Abstract

Mr. Yourman’s presentation will compare and contrast foundation alternatives in potentially liquefiable soils such as deep driven piles, shallow foundations supported on ground improved by vibro replacement (stone columns) and deep dynamic compaction, and mechanically stabilized earth composite raft systems. Several case histories will be discussed including several innovative and unique solutions to building support. Cost and schedule considerations from the actual construction will be included.

Bio

Allen Yourman is a licensed civil and geotechnical engineer with over 35 years of geotechnical experience. He attended UCLA receiving his BS Engineering and MS Engineering in the 1970s. In 1992, he co-founded Diaz Yourman & Associates, one of the leading geotechnical firms in Southern California. Mr. Yourman has authored more than a dozen technical papers on geotechnical engineering at national and international conferences.
