A UCLA team of undergraduate students, advised by Professor Mohanty of the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, competed in the US Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Decathlon April 17-19, 2020. UCLA won second place, behind the University of British Columbia, in the Urban Single-Family Division.

The Energy Solar Decathlon challenges college students to design and build efficient and innovative buildings powered by renewable energy, while optimizing for considerations such as affordability, resilience, and occupant health. 45 teams, representing 31 collegiate institutions, competed in the virtual event.
