Yifan Gao, a UCLA graduate student mentored by civil and environmental engineering professor Shaily Mahendra, was awarded the UCLA Dissertation Year Fellowship by the Division of Graduate Education.
The fellowship awards are presented to students within 12 months of completing and filing their dissertation, as well as planning to start teaching or research appointments soon after the end of the dissertation fellowship year.
Program participants will receive a $20,000 stipend, in addition to tuition and fees.
