NewsNation brought in Scott Brandenberg, professor of civil and environmental engineering to discuss the April 5, 2024 New Jersey quake.
“The region doesn’t get earthquakes very often. Are structures up to code? Can they handle shaking? It turns out that we do have building codes that contain seismic provisions everywhere in the United States. I know that people in this area are not used to feeling the shaking and so it’s scary. But you know rest assured we do have those provisions. Of course there are older structures that were built before modern codes, came in so you know some of those may be damaged. There will be damage if there’s larger earthquakes.”
