The UCLA Environmental Team, advised by Professor Mohanty of the Civil & Environmental Engineering department, won second place in the 2020 Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC), hosted remotely by California State University, Fullerton. The UCLA teams also won 2nd place for the Timber Strong Design Build and Concrete Canoe events, in addition to first place for the MSE Geowall event. At the 2019 Conference, the UCLA Environmental team won first place.

The PSWC is an annual, three day competition, hosted by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapters in the Pacific Southwest region. Students compete in a variety of technical and non-technical events, and an average of 1,500 Civil and Environmental Engineering students, representing 18 collegiate institutions throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii, compete every year. Overall, UCLA was awarded second place.
