Margaret Capetz, a member of the Mahendra Lab in the civil and environmental engineering department, has earned scholarships from several sections of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Grace Hopper Conference, and UCLA Samueli School of Engineering. The complete list of the awarded scholarships are as follows:

  • Society of Women Engineers Los Angeles Scholarship (2022)
  • Society of Women Engineers Santa Clara Valley Analog Devices Scholarship (2022)
  • Society of Women Engineers UCLA Northrop Grumman Scholarship (2022)
  • Grace Hopper Conference AnitaB.org Scholarship (2022)
  • Dr. Vincent Ho Scholarship in Engineering (2021)

As a second year computer science student, Capetz explores opportunities in climate tech through coursework, internship opportunities, and in the lab led by UCLA CEE professor Shaily Mahendra. Capetz demonstrates leadership as the Technical Director for the Society of Women Engineers at UCLA, heading the QWER Hack hackathon, among others. She also serves as an Outreach Officer for Association for Computer Machinery AI (ACM AI), where she teaches machine learning to high school students. The scholarships encourage Capetz to continue learning and exploring while giving back to her community.
