On July 17, ASCE Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch (MLAB) held their Annual Awards Night at the Westin Pasadena Hotel in Pasadena. We are proud to announce that ASCE has received awards for both individual members and projects during the event, recognizing their dedication and commitment to their respective fields.

Among the individual award winners were:

  • Lauren Lee (UCLA CEE ’25) — Outstanding Civil Engineering Student: As Chapter President, Lauren led ASCE at UCLA through 150+ events, fostered stronger faculty-student engagement, steered the chapter to 2nd place in the 2025 Pacific Southwest Symposium, and helped secure the UCLA Engineering Bruin Development Award for 2024–25.
  • Ben Baker, P.E. (UCLA alumni) — Outstanding ASCE Branch Officer: Recognized for substantial leadership contributions as Treasurer, President, and Past‑President of ASCE MLAB from 2021–2025, while also serving as a UCLA-ASCE practitioner advisor.
  • Ingrid Spielbauer, EIT, M.S. (UCLA B.S. ’20, M.S. ’23) — Outstanding ASCE YMF Officer: As LA YMF’s Inclusion, Belonging & Diversity Chair and currently Treasurer, Ingrid has championed diverse and sustainable engineering outreach. Her UCLA roots include leadership of the Environmental Design project and research on environmental justice.
  • Mahsa Sheykhsoltan, P.E. (UCLA B.S. ’19) — Outstanding ASCE Practitioner Advisor: As a UCLA student chapter president and Concrete Canoe team leader, Mahsa now serves as practitioner advisor, mentoring students and guiding transportation‑focused civil engineering initiatives across L.A.

To Lauren, ASCE at UCLA has been more than a student organization. It has been a foundation for personal growth, meaningful connections, and lasting impact. She is proud of all the chapter has accomplished and looks forward to seeing its continued success in the years ahead.
