Checking Out Keys
Keys must be requested via email to email@example.com
In your email, include the following information:
Building and Room Number
Name (First and Last)
Status (e.g. undergrad, grad, visitor)
Local address (including apartment number, city, state and zip code)
How long you anticipate the need for the key (e.g. Jan 1, 2016-Dec 31, 2016)
If you request a key for lab access, you must first take the Laboratory Fundamental course and send us the certificate of completion. Please attach the certificate (PDF preferable) to your email request. You may find the training schedule on the following website: https://ehs.ucla.edu/training-support/courses.
After all of the information is received, we will process your request. Please note that keys are issued by appointment only. An email confirming date and time will sent to you and you must reply and confirm the appointment.
The department charges you for a key deposit, which is $15 per key with a maximum of $45. We can accept a check or exact cash (we do not make change) for deposits. Your deposit is due at the time of your appointment to check out keys.
Deposits are returned to individuals via a mailed check to your address, after you return the keys to the department.
Our department requires that you return your keys at the end of your appointment here. If you do not return your keys, your advisor will be charged for rekeying the door and re-issuing keys to occupants. The cost to rekey a door is >$500.
Key returns are best handled by making an appointment using firstname.lastname@example.org to request a time. Otherwise, there is an additional delay in requesting the return of your deposit.
Once keys are received by the department and checked back into inventory, we will request a check to be mailed to your home address. This process usually takes 4-5 weeks.
If you are a foreign resident or a student who is leaving the local Los Angeles area, we recommend that you notify us 4 week prior to your departure, so that we can request a check and have it ready for you to pick up when you return your keys (by appointment only). This will allow you to cash the check prior to leaving the area.
