Summary:
Structural Focus is a structural engineering consulting firm specializing in the design of complex and innovative buildings. Team members with varying levels of experience, including a Principal, Project Engineer, and two Structural Designers, will present a range of projects from historical renovations to ground up design. They will share the process of exploration and design solutions to projects such as Wilshire Boulevard Temple, KTLA Channel 5 studios, Mount Saint Mary’s Doheny Mansion, and Hotel Cecil.

Presenter Biographies:
Russell Kehl, Principal, SE
Russell Kehl joined Structural Focus in 2001 after working for three years at another structural engineering firm in Los Angeles. He is now a licensed California Structural Engineer with over 18 years of experience in structural analysis, computer modeling, seismic evaluation, new structura
l design, and retrofit of existing structures. Russell serves as a Project Manager on Structural Focus projects. Some of his projects include the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Agensys, The Reserve, Wilshire Boulevard Temple, the design of new post production facilities, laboratory buildings, several adaptive reuse projects, and numerous renovations.

Melineh Zomorrodian, Project Engineer, SE
Melineh graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M. S. in Structural/Earthquake Engineering from UCLA. She joined Structural Focus in 2008 as an intern and continued with the firm after completing the UCLA M
asters of Science program. Melineh is a licensed California Structural Engineer with experience in structural analysis, design and construction administration for existing and new structures. She has worked on several seismic upgrades and tenant improvements including work on Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles, an animation studio in Glendale, SRF Wind¬mill Chapel in Pacific Palisades, Red Bull North American Headquarters, and KTLA Channel 5. She has also worked on the design of new structures including Fox Studios Building 105 and Sony Pictures eight-story building in Culver City.


Evelyn Barkhordarian, Structural Designer, E.I.T.
Evelyn graduated with a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UCLA and an M.S. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials from U.C. Berkeley. Evelyn entered Structural Focus in 2014 as an intern and rejoined the firm in 2015 after completing her graduate studies. Evelyn has worked on various projects including, the new Masonic Temple Retail building, Washington Iron Works facilities new office building, and the tenant improvements of Red Bull North American Headquarters and KTLA Chanel 5. 

 
Michael Daciolas-Semon, Structural Designer, E.I.T.
Michael recently graduated from U.C. Berkeley, he obtained an M.S. in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials. He previously worked as a Structural Intern Designer at Structural Focus while attending UCLA. As an intern, Michael worked on over fifteen projects including the modeling and seismic analysis of the historic Old Santa Monica Post Office, Skydance’s new offices.
